IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?
What is a brazilian blowout? Everything you need to know.
Contrary to popular belief, a keratin treatment (or smoothing treatment) is not a straightening treatment. It is a semi permament SMOOTHING treatment to reduce frizz, add shine, and cut down on styling time, essentially making your hair more manageable.
A Brazilian blowout works by infusing your hair with keratin, a protein that naturally exists in your hair. The keratin bonds with your hair, creating a protective layer around each strand. The silicone based serum is then sealed in with heat.
The treatment can also keep your natural curls or it can take relax your curl a bit. For example, if you have type 3 curly hair, it can take you to type 2 curly hair.
Is This Treatment Safe?
In recent years, there has been some controversy surrounding Brazilian blowouts, with claims of potential health risks. However, no scientific evidence supports these claims, and Brazilian blowout treatments have been deemed safe by the FDA.Â
How Long Does a Brazilian Blowout Last?
A Brazilian blowout lasts about three months, roughly 12 weeks with proper care. Brazilian Blowout shampoo, conditioner, and hair masque is HIGHLY recommened for the longevity of the treatment. Nonetheless, its duration still depends on several factors, such as the rate of your hair growth, your hair type, and how often you wash it. Getting a Brazilian blowout every 12 weeks is recommended to properly maintain this style and keep your hair looking its best.
Caring for Brazilian Blowout-Treated Hair
To maintain proper care of your fair following a Brazilian blowout, follow these steps.
Avoid washing your hair for the first three days after the treatment.
When you wash your hair, use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner and hair masque. (Brazilian blowout brand is HIGHLY recommended)
Do not use hot tools on your hair for at least two weeks following the treatment.
After two weeks, you can return to using hot tools as desired. Be sure to use a heat protectant spray beforehand.
